A moment in history for the CSS Virginia ship model...

The Battle of Hampton Roads, March 8-9 1862, was the world's first engagement of 2 ironclad warships. The CSS Virginia was built by the confederacy on the salvaged hull of the scuttled USS Merrimac. The Monitor, a uniquely engineered design, featured an innovative rotating gun turret with two 11' cannons. The battle began on the 8th as CSS Virginia successfully attacked and sunk a number of conventional Union ships. The Monitor joined the battle the next day. While it was able to out-maneuver the large Virginia, neither ship proved able to damage the other, so the battle was essentially a draw. This historic pair of models will be the pride of any collectors' fleet. USS Monitor measures 15 1/2"L x 3 1/2"W x 4"H. CSS Virginia measures 24 3/4"L x 7 1/2"H x 5 1/2"W. Buy one or buy the set.

These ships are wonderful nautical collectibles.
