Built in 1847 in Maryland, The Harvey was a cargo ship that took several trips each year between Galveston and the Jewish port of Jaffa. Her main cargo on board was hemp that was used to make rigging ropes for ships. The Harvey also spent time as a warrior ship which overtook and captured British merchants for their cargo in order to support the British forces in an attempt to recapture former colonies.
This fully assembled replica of the majestic ship was hand built by craftsmen who used historical photos and documents to recreate an accurate scale model. The material used in the construction of each ship includes western red cedar, rosewood and mahogany pieces. Every boat has been 100 percent hand built using the same plank on frame construction method practiced by professional ship builders.
The Harvey measures 35” L x 8.3” W x 26” H and weighs 3.7 lbs. It is hand painted with two-tone black and white colors on the hull. There are two decks and a front bowsprit that features three large masts connected using a highly advanced rigging system. The sails are hand stitched and made of fine linen material.
This model ship is loaded with fine details and metal ornamentals for collectors to discover. Metal anchors and a wooden rudder are visible on the front and rear of the ship. It also features a row of metal stationed cannons and a bell tower. Each ship comes with a wooden base and a brass nameplate that may be used for engraving purposes.
You can choose to present this historical piece to a fellow boat lover, or add it to your personal collection to display with other treasures found in the Model Ships section of our Everything Nautical website.
