The Empress of Ireland was built in 1906 for the Canadian Pacific Railway Co. and was involved in one of the worst peacetime shipping disasters of all time in 1914 when she collided with the Norwegian SS Storstad during a bout of heavy fog. Now she is available as a FULLY ASSEMBLED model, ready to display. Master craftsmen use historical photographs, drawings or original plans meticulously handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch. They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. They are 100% hand built individually using plank-on-frame construction method, similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop..
Our model is painted in red, white and black, the original colors of the ship. It has magnificent details, including plank decking, metal rails, multiple life boats, davits, metal stairs, painted smoked stacks, anchors, advanced rigging, and so much more. The word Empress of Ireland is shown on the hull.
This model comes standard with a solid wood base and brass nameplate.
